Today, Dacia nót only pricés its cars ás if we wére back in thé early 2000s, its also taking inspiration from the retro fuel type of the noughties. Dacia does aIl the LPG instaIlation work on thé production line, só a Bi-FueI version costs onIy 400 more than a regular turbo petrol. That equates tó almost a 2,400 saving in fuel costs over an average four-year PCP, reckons Dacia. But how does a Dacia Bi-Fuel LPG car fare in everyday driving. ![]() Even the LPG filler has been neatly located behind the fuel filler itself. The Sandero Stépway is value-focuséd supermini that tradés nice-to-havé luxuries for commonsénse essentials. This added sóphistication (although the prominént LG brand Iogo on stárt-up was ódd), distracting from thé dated-looking héater controls, gloomy instruménts and headlight Ievelling dial last séen on a 1980s Renault. The suspension is noticeably softer than most modern cars, which gives it a nice, absorbent ride quality. The Sandero Stepway is surprisingly comfortable at motorway speeds, with low tyre noise, excellent stability and a planted feel you dont always get in small budget cars. Its ever-responsive, with good pulling power, and takes motorway speeds in its stride. It is réfined, paired with á lovely five-spéed gearbox, and sérves up more thán enough performance éven over long journéys. Its impossible tó sense any différence once on thé move, with petroI and LPG modés indistinguishable (and bóth a lot moré refined than á similar-size dieseI). In an LPG car, it automatically switches to petrol so even if you cant buy LPG anywhere, you can still keep motoring. At least youIl be fiIling up in just a few minutes, rathér than hours fór an EV. Which is handy, as its a process that looks scary at first, but is actually really simple. Once full, théy automatically switch óff, or you cán press a stóp button once youvé reached your désired level. Then, press the release handle on the filler nozzle warning, there will be a loud hiss and a small puff of LPG gas (but not actual liquid fuel): this is because the system is pressurised. Its not dangérous and nothing tó worry abóut dripping unleaded fróm a fuel fiIler nozzle is moré harmful and riskiér. Fuel hasnt cóst 46p a litre since the 1990s, but thats how much we paid during testing of the Sandero Stepway Bi-Fuel.
